Our Juniors and Seniors were privileged to hear from motivational speaker Zack Pollack today. Zack, who has been living with cerebral palsy since birth, has overcome many obstacles in his life and is currently a semicha student at Yeshiva University's Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary. He shared some of his thoughts on Chanukah with us, including this concept: "What does Hashem want from us on Chanukah? To recognize the miracles in our every day life.
"Chanukah represents light, strength, love, and hope. It's about recognizing that even though we may have challenges and struggles, we have to try to figure out how to ignite the light of Chanukah every day of our lives." Thank you, Zack, for sharing these meaningful words and inspiring our talmidim. #motivatelikealion #MTAchanukah

Zack Fights for Wheelchair Accessibility in Ann Arbor, MI
In 2012, Zack’s father Larry wanted to bring his son along to the reunion of his law school class at the University of Michigan. While looking at hotels, they found, much to their consternation, that in the entire city of Ann Arbor there were no wheelchair accessible rooms available. Specifically, the largest hotel in town, the Campus Inn, had no wheelchair accessible rooms at all, and the related Bell Tower Hotel had only two wheelchair accessible rooms, which were booked years in advance because they were not reserved specifically for wheelchair-bound individuals. Zack and Larry would not accept this situation and pushed the United States Dept. of Justice into pursuing legal action against the two sister hotels in Ann Arbor, MI. In June, 2014, after nearly two years of litigation, the U.S. government announced it had reached a comprehensive agreement with the two hotels to increase current and future accessibility, in accordance with the requirements of the ADA. The following settlement agreement was posted by the U.S. Department of Justice:

Zack on the 2014 Israel-Gaza Conflict
With the fighting going on in Israel, I think that the Israelis need to know that every Jew, no matter what shape or size stand behind her. Our homeland is at war now. We all hope and pray for a speedy solution that the war will end soon.
But until then, as Jewish people we know- We are at war! Our homeland is at war! The IDF soldiers are not the only ones in this war. They are fighting but we are fighting too. Not necessarily with guns but we need to fight with our actions. We need to say Tehillim , give tzedakah, we need to Daven, we need to do Chesed! You may ask , how could we win this war by doing Chesed?
The answer is simple, in Camp HASC, I live and breathe because of the chesed that is done here. Chesed can change the world one person at a time, just like I see here in Camp HASC watching the miracles day in and day out. If this war could change this world in a negative way, let us try to change this world in a positive way- by davening, saying tehillim and especially by doing chesed. Let’s all daven and rally together that our Jewish soldiers should come home soon and pray for a quick end to this war.
